Sport Central was formed in 1991 by a group of community-minded individuals who wanted to see children in need have access to necessary sport equipment and have the opportunity to participate in the sport of their choice. The primary objective is to gather, recycle and redistribute equipment to those kids who cannot afford the opportunity to play.


Provides free sports equipment to disadvantaged youth aged 3-17

Serves over 8,500 kids per year

Equates to more than $3,000,000 annually of new and/or refurbished sports equipment

Approximately 2,700 bikes delivered annually

Service area: Edmonton (primary), Red Deer-North (secondary)

Leverages donations 10:1, meaning $100 turns into $1,000 of equipment

Received 2013 Lieutenant Governor’s Leadership for Active Communities Award
